Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)

Exercise and careful dietary habits often aren’t enough to achieve a stomach that displays your best efforts, as the excess skin that remains after weight has been lost can result in both physical problems and cosmetic concerns. An abdominoplasty, or “tummy tuck,” removes excess abdominal skin as well as small amounts of lingering fat.

For many women who’ve gone through pregnancy, the abdominal muscles that separate to make room for a pregnant belly never fully come back together after childbirth. This condition, known as diastasis recti, results in bulging of the abdominal wall and muscle weakness, and can contribute to lower back pain as well as other problems associated with weak core muscles. Our surgeons are able to repair those muscles surgically, often combining that procedure with an abdominoplasty to remove excess skin at the same time.

Patients choose to undergo abdominoplasty surgery for a number of reasons, including:

  • Excess abdominal skin following weight loss
  • Abdominal fat that is resistant to diet and exercise
  • Stretched stomach muscles from pregnancy

During your personal consultation, our surgeons will discuss your concerns with you and explain the details of abdominoplasty and muscle repair surgery. There are a number of options to consider, including whether or not another body procedure, such as liposuction, should be performed at the same time.
